Manifestation of a Sculptural Feeling
9/27/2023
If you could personify feelings in a song into a sculptural art piece, what would it look like? That was the task I was given this week in the studio. At first, I thought I understood what I was supposed to do. I chose the song Summertime and made the tempo a wavy line; the beat of the trumpet was represented using spaced-out straight lines; and the trills of the piano notes were made into a sloping line. Even though the sculpture looked like the song it didn’t look like the feelings of the song. The song feels soft, lacy, buttery, smooth, nostalgic, dreamy, relaxed, ironic, powerful, timeless, sympathetic, and overwhelming. The sculpture would have loopy lines, thin and thick, with very few straight lines. Louis Arnorlod's voice would be represented using thick lines to symbolize his strong voice. While Ellas's voice would be a thin steady wavy line with lots of loops and curves. I finally understand what I am supposed to do.
